Margherita di Savoia “Terme” offers to its visitors a summer schedule rich of events, the most striking of these are the town feast of the “Holy Saviour” and the “Golden Daisy” prize.
The “Patron Feast” lasts in average from three to five days including the 6th of August, celebrating day of the Holy Saviour. During these days an important and colourful historical show is performed; it goes over the most important historical steps since when the ancient image of the Holy Saviour was found by some fishermen. The festivity goes on with several shows that change from year to year, except from the traditional Procession and the fireworks on the beach, very charming. During the days of the feast, the town, already crowded with tourists, is also visited by the inhabitants of the nearby towns. Cheerfulness and enjoyment last till late night, also thanks to the great fun-fair and the numerous stalls.
The “Golden Daisy” prize, another important event that characterizes the town, is organized from the Municipality. During the show they are awarded, with the golden daisy (symbolically representing the name of the town), people of relief of the zone and of Puglia, that stand out in several fields: from science to medicine, from culture to entertainment and sports. The show is introduced by famous people of the star-system and gives prestige and visibility to the town.
Other events of relief are: the “Salt Art Festival”, a cultural show linked to Jazz music and art in the name of salt; the “Salt Feast” with fairs and feasts in the squares; an evocative procession on the sea in honour of the “Sterpeto Holy Virgin”, that takes place at the end of July on fishermen boats and many other shows that vary from year to year.
The “festivity of Our Lady of Sorrows” symbolically closes the summer season. It takes place at about half September. This festivity, shorter and plainer, is considered the original “festivity of Margherita inhabitants” because it takes place in a quieter time and allows to deeply live the religious and devout aspect that the citizens have towards this sweet Madonna, Patron Saint of the town
A summer under the sign of tradition, culture and entertainment: this you will find in Margherita di Savoia “Terme”. |
